The small municipality of Mailly- le-Château in northern Burgundy is known for its picturesque location: The upper part above the cliffs with its historic castle and village center, the lower part bordered by the Yonne River and Canal Nivernais.
The overgrown property offers a view of the village center through a small valley. The idea was to build a simple wooden cabin in the upper area. The elevated structure offers a large living space with a view, ancillary rooms and a mezzanine with sleeping space for a family.
The construction was made of Douglas fir, the façade is untreated and will weather naturally. The building was largely pre fabricated and erected in just a few days by a local carpenter. The only source of heating during the cold season is a wood-burning stove, while hot water is supplied by a heat pump.
