Amiens University - Renzo Piano Building Workshop

Client:

Université Picardie Jules Verne

Year:

2010-2016

In a bid to integrate student life into the city center, Amiens transformed its 17th-century citadel into a campus for the Université de Picardie Jules-Verne. The new campus includes several faculties, public amenities, and a park, linking the city center to the northern neighborhoods. Originally a major development barrier, the 13-hectare citadel now fosters urban connectivity.

The project preserves key historical structures like the Place d’Armes, the barracks, the stable block, and the Governor’s Lodge. New buildings are designed around these features, with a focus on maintaining the site's historical integrity while enhancing accessibility and functionality for students and the public.
